The City of Winnipeg’s annual water meter reading program will resume on May 4, 2026 and continue until August 28, 2026.
Meter readers will be visiting homes weekdays between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Meter readers will:
- Wear a uniform with the City of Winnipeg logo
- Carry a hand-held device
- Present photo identification
- Only knock at front and side doors – not back doors
We remind people to ask for identification before allowing a meter reader into their home.
To prepare for a meter reading, homeowners should ensure their water meter is easily accessible and clear of obstructions.
When the meter reader arrives, people must secure any dogs in another room or a kennel. The reader will not enter the home with a loose dog.
If someone isn’t at home when we visit, we will leave a meter reading card with instructions on how to provide an accurate meter reading by phone or online at winnipeg.ca/submitreading.
We require at least one accurate meter reading per year from each household. Submitting accurate, quarterly meter reads every time you receive your reminder card in the mail can help identify leaks and ensure you are only paying for the water you use.
