City of Winnipeg seeking feedback on ideas to help create a new vision for public space at Portage & Main

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is working on a plan to replace aging infrastructure at Portage & Main and to reimagine the shared public space at the intersection.

Significant investment is needed in Portage & Main’s infrastructure. The membrane (waterproofing layer) that protects the underground concourse is nearing the end of its useable life and requires replacement; without it, there is increasing risk of water damage to the concourse. To replace the membrane, the intersection needs to be completely excavated. This creates the opportunity to reimagine the public space at this iconic intersection.

The City is seeking feedback on ideas for the public space at Portage & Main to help create a vision of what the intersection could look like, and how the space could be enjoyed by people that visit, live, or work near Portage & Main.

The City is holding two pop-up events Downtown to give Winnipeggers who work or live in the area an opportunity to learn more about the ideas for the intersection, speak with the project team, and share their thoughts.
