City of Winnipeg begins mosquito larviciding program

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has commenced this year’s insect control season focusing on a targeted, environmentally friendly mosquito larviciding program which is the most effective approach to control mosquitoes. Larviciding targets mosquito larvae in the aquatic stage before they emerge as adult mosquitoes.

“Below average winter precipitation and a slow spring melt has resulted in favourable conditions to start the mosquito control season. The mosquito larviciding program has started, targeting the spring mosquitoes that have begun to hatch in standing water in ditches and low-lying areas.” said David Wade, Superintendent of Insect Control.
